This is great article about dumpster diver Darren Atkinson by Cory Doctorow.  It reminded me of my dumpster divings days during my senior year of high school.  My senior project was about turning trash into fashion.  I kept dumpster diving even after my senior project was finished, but decided to stop when I didn’t want to deal with the scarier aspects of this activity (i.e. sharp objects, needles, germs, etc.).
